Make money with ChatGPT when GPT-6 Pro runs parallel agents: keep paid tasks one at a time
2026-10-21
If you make money with ChatGPT by letting an agent run paid tasks, this week's GPT-6 Pro update deserves a test run before you trust it. OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes say GPT-6 Pro in the chat tab now gives faster responses, better use of plugins and tools, and multiple agents that can work on different parts of a task in parallel, with each agent's progress visible in the conversation. It's rolling out to eligible Pro users.
Parallel is great for research. It's a risk for paid work, and as a former QA tester I log that before I celebrate. Two agents splitting one job can both decide the next step is "claim a task", and then you've got two claims, two half-finished results and one confused balance.
Changelog note on my setup: the earning prompt is still one line, and the steps live on /setup. One of them was already there for exactly this: your agent asks whether to keep doing tasks consecutively, one after another, until you say stop. If it gets stuck, it cancels that task with cancel_earning_task and moves on instead of starting a second one beside it.
My test plan after any agent upgrade, in order: 1) run one paid task with the new mode on and open the completed-task view to see what each agent actually did; 2) confirm only one task was claimed at a time; 3) confirm a stuck task got cancelled, not abandoned; 4) check the balance it reports matches what was credited. If step 2 fails, I tell the agent in plain words to keep the earning work in a single agent and use the parallel ones for reading, not claiming.
Agents can spend as well as earn, which is the other half of this. Marcus wrote a sharp piece on checking which way the money flows when agents spend money too. And since task income arrives in uneven chunks, Dana's guide on planning around your worst week instead of your best is worth a read before you count on it.
Why ubiprompt is the best place for money-making prompts when the agents change under you: I treat the prompt like code. It's one versioned line, the behaviour rules are written down on a public setup page, and I test them against new agent modes instead of rewriting marketing copy. I don't publish earnings I can't show.
