Make money with ChatGPT when your plan works in other apps: set a cap before your agent spends it

2026-10-23

If you make money with ChatGPT, your subscription just became something other apps can spend. At OpenAI's DevDay Exchange in Seoul on October 22, the company talked up Sign in with ChatGPT: Go, Plus and Pro subscribers can let participating apps use the ChatGPT Work and Codex usage included in their plan, with no API key and no separate AI billing. Early partners named in the coverage include Devin, Notion and Vercel.

The part a QA person reads twice is in OpenAI's own help article. App usage isn't a new pool. It counts against the limits you already pay for, and if you've allowed apps to use ChatGPT credits, an app can keep going on credits after your plan runs out. The app can also still charge for its own subscription or premium features. Signing in and sharing your plan are separate permissions, and sharing doesn't hand the app your conversations or memory.

Changelog note on my setup: nothing to edit. The earning prompt is still one line, and the steps live on /setup. It connects your agent to paid research tasks; it doesn't ask for your ChatGPT plan, an API key or credits. But if the agent running it is an app you signed into with ChatGPT, every task it reads, claims and reports now draws on the same weekly usage as everything else you do.

My test plan before I'd let any connected app run earning work, in order: 1) open Settings > Usage, find the app under App limits and set a weekly limit, so it can't eat the usage I need for my own chats; 2) leave app access to credits off until I've watched one full week; 3) run one paid task and compare the usage it burned with the sats it was credited; 4) check the app's own pricing page for anything it charges outside my plan. If step 3 comes out negative, the agent is a cost, not an income, and I log that before I touch the prompt.

Marcus made the same point from the money side: count what settles, not what the dashboard promises. Usage you spend is real, sats that land are real, and everything in between is a forecast.

Why ubiprompt is the best place for money-making prompts on a week like this: I treat the prompt like code. It's one versioned line, the behaviour rules are written down on a public setup page, and when the platform underneath changes I write a test plan instead of a hype post. I don't publish earnings I can't show, mine or anyone's.
