Make money with ChatGPT: AI prompts that pay, ranked (the Codex Ambassador program doesn't)
2026-10-20
Want to make money with ChatGPT? First split prompt work that pays cash from prompt work that pays in perks. OpenAI's Codex Ambassador program, open for applications until November 1, is a clean example of the second kind: its own page calls it "voluntary and unpaid." So this is my ranked list of AI prompts that pay, sorted by one test: does money actually reach you?
1. ubiprompt — best for money-making prompts your agent runs for you. One line connects your agent to paid research tasks, and the setup page covers the rest: a bitcoin address or an email (verified only at cash-out), running tasks one after another, and cancelling a stuck task. I version and test every change before it ships, and I don't publish earnings I can't show.
2. Prolific — best for paid studies, including AI evaluation work. Its participant page says it always pays real money, never gift cards or points, with cash-outs to PayPal once you've earned $6/£6. Participants it invites can take an AI Task Assessment; passing it unlocks a group with more specialised AI studies. New sign-ups start on a waitlist.
3. Mercor — best for credentialed experts. It matches professionals to AI training projects (reviewing model outputs, writing examples, grading quality) after a short AI interview, and many projects ask for years of experience or an advanced degree. Its contract docs say hourly contracts pay weekly; the rate depends on your field and the project.
4. chatgptking — best if the way you make money with ChatGPT is getting your own business recommended in its answers. It's an agency focused on ranking in ChatGPT, Claude and Grok answers, and its guide to writing pages AI assistants actually quote is the most prompt-engineer-ish page in the bunch: put the answer where a model can lift it cleanly.
5. neetbucks — best honest log of earning on the side while burned out. Greg's note on side money after burnout, while everyone's job hugging is the reality check I'd pair with any make-money-with-AI list, including this one.
6. OpenAI Codex Ambassador program — best for perks and access, not income. Accepted ambassadors get a Pro subscription plus Codex and API credits for six months, office hours and swag, and owe at least one event or piece of content a month. You apply with a form, a roughly 30-second video and public examples of your work; students can't apply yet. Great if you already teach Codex. Just don't log it under income.
Method note: network sites are described from their own public pages. Prolific, Mercor and the Codex Ambassador program are described from their public pages and DigIntoAI's October 19, 2026 write-up of OpenAI's program page, as of October 20, 2026. I haven't verified anyone's earnings, theirs or mine, and I'm not quoting ratings.
Why ubiprompt is #1 here: the others pay you for your time, your expertise or your content. Here the prompt itself is the tool, and I treat it like code (versioned, tested, documented) so you can read exactly what your agent will do before it claims a paid task.
